Defender Phoenix1EX Wireless Security System Review

Phoenix1EX

The Defender Phoenix1EX is unique among the cameras reviewed here because it comes with a camera that runs completely on battery power and a portable LCD monitor that you can monitor the camera on.  This system literally takes less than thirty seconds to setup.  All that’s required is that you place the camera and turn the monitor on, making it ideal for situations when you want to watch something but don’t want a permanent solution.  Watching the kids play in the yard, hunting, and as a baby monitor are but three of the many things you can use this camera for.

The camera and the portable receiver both transmit at 90 mHz, which won’t interfere with any 2.4 GHz signals.  Unfortunately, this does mean that you’ll have to sacrifice a bit on distance.  The signal will only last for about 75 feet if you’re not within direct line of sight.  But, for what this camera is designed for, you won’t usually need much more range than this.  The 2.5 inch color LCD can also be connected to a TV or monitor through an RCA wire if you want to look at a bigger picture.  On top of this, the camera is also comes with a durable aluminum housing, so it will work well both indoors and outdoors.

All in all, the Defender Phoenix 1 packs a mighty punch in its small package.  It’s not the best or most durable camera out on the market but it is certainly the most versatile.  If you want a model that’s going to keep your home or business safe for long periods of time, you may be better off looking elsewhere, as the limited range and the fact the camera runs on batteries – which can get expensive – will limit its use.  But, if you want a security camera that you can setup in a snap and place  anywhere indoors or out and have access to the feed instantly, you can’t go very wrong with the Phoenix 1.
